Kiambu Town MP Jude Njomo has praised President Uhuru Kenyatta’s order to have National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officers withdrawn from the roads immediately.
Njomo says that the order is timely, noting that NTSA officers had allegedly failed to ensure sanity on the roads.
He said that the NTSA core mandate is to implement traffic laws and policies and not to man roads as the case has been.
“The president did well by ordering the withdrawal of NTSA officers from the roads and mandating traffic police to man the roads,” he told journalists at the Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Tuesday.
The MP said that the NTSA is partly to blame for the rise in accidents for allegedly failing to execute the road safety policies.
Njomo, however, called on all stakeholders to work together in efforts to curb road accidents that are on rise.
On Tuesday, President Kenyatta ordered NTSA officers to be withdrawn from the roads. The president who was peaking in Meru when he attend the burial of three bishops who perished in a road accident late last year said that the order will be effected immediately.
The president stated that traffic rules will be carried out only by the traffic police.
