Addressing residents on Monday at the area chief’s office, Mwangangi condemned the County government officials who had involved themselves in the sand business.

“Sand business has always belonged to the residents even before the formation of county government. This should not change with devolution,” said Mwangangi.

Mwangangi said that most residents get their daily bread through sand harvesting.

“Sand harvesting is one of the major economic growth activities in this area,” said Mwangangi.

The legislator further warned residents against breaking the sand harvesting rules set by the county assembly.

“As businessmen, remember you have to pay tax to the county government,” said Mwangangi.

Mwangangi promised residents of his support in the fight.

“I am aware that sand industry has employed very many youths. And failure for them to get back the job they may get involved in criminal related activities to feed themselves,” he said.
