Nyaribari Masaba MP Elijah Moindi has promised to power all primary and secondary schools in his constituency before the end of this year to enable students have ample time of reading.
Speaking on Monday at St. Charles Lwanga Ichuni girls during prize giving ceremony, MP Moindi said that he would improve education standards in the Sub-county and therefore urged his detractors to support him to take the constituency in the next level.
“I will continue supporting topping schools in my area so that the underperforming ones can be challenged and pull up their socks. Joint efforts are needed here and therefore I ask other leaders to join hands with me so that we can improve education standards in our Sub-county,” MP Moindi said.
He promised to give a bus and motorbike to the school that will top in this year’s examinations and therefore challenged other schools from the county to benchmark with St. Charles Lwanga Ichuni Girls which topped not only in the county, but in entire Gusii region surpassing all National schools from Kisii and Nyamira counties.
According to the principal of the girls school, Joyce Orioki who addressed the media minutes later after the prize giving ceremony, they are targeting a mean score of 10 points and above in this year’s examinations.
She lauded the MP for living by his promise of awarding a top school with a bus that she said has encouraged them and would facilitate benchmarking tours of the school’s students with others.
The principal also hailed Kisii county government through Governor James Ongwae for financial and material support they have accorded the school that has seen its performance upping.
“We are targeting a mean Score of 10 points and above, but we can only realize this if there is full cooperation with all stakeholders. There has been flurry of negative criticism that I think if continues, will pull back our achievements,” said Principal Joyce Orioki.
Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi and Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof. John Akama were among chief guests in the Prize giving event, who lauded the school management in the helm of Principal Joyce Orioki for making the school a giant in Gusii land that has given a reputation to the county.
A total of 111 candidates sat for the last year’s KCSE scored an aggregate grade of C+ and above a minimum entry for University whereby more than 20 students attained A- and above.
The school has registered the same number of candidates in this year’s KCSE according to the principal.
