Soi Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has been the latest leader to call for the disbandment of the graft watchdog, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Speaking on Radio Citizen Tuesday morning, citing the continued revelation of scandals within state bodies and parastatals, the lawmaker noted that the Eliud Wabukhala-led body has demonstrated an inability to perform, and has no business remaining in existence.
He proposed that the funds and resources currently being channeled to the commission be redirected to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Noordin Haji headed Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
He lauded Haji's swift response with regards to the ongoing National Youth Service (NYS) scandal probe, saying that he should be given a salary increase for motivation and to maintain his focus.
''EACC haitusaidii kwa vyovyote na ni bora ivunjwe ili hizo pesa zipelekwe katika DCI na DPP. Baadhi ya pesa hizo zaweza kutumika kumuongezea DPP kipato ili aendelee kupigana na ufisadi (EACC has proved to be useless in this campaign and it is better to break it and re-channel its resources to the other bodies. Some of the monies can be used to boost the DPP's salary as a motivation),'' he said.
The funds, he said, will also be important in boosting the prosecution's side in court battles versus corruption suspects.
''Pia tuwawezeshe kupata mawakili wazuri ili kupambana na washukiwa wa ufisadi mahakamani (they should also be empowered in court by being allocated enough funds to assign good lawyers),'' he added.
