Kisii County Women representative Mary Otara has called on the government to put measures in place to protect young girls from what she termed as a new breed of male leaders who co-habit with school girls.

While addressing various religious women group in Kisii on Thursday the Mp called upon all parents to know that educating a girl child is educating a society.

“I am told there are some leaders who hoodwink parents that they pay school fees for their daughters whereas their intent is to sexually exploit the girls. I am sending a warning that the long arm of the law will catch up with them,” she added.

She warned parents against allowing their daughters to live with men who are not close relatives noting that cases of defilement were on the increase in the area.

“There are government bursaries for the needy pupils, apply for support instead of seeking financial assistance from strangers with ulterior motives,” she said

She warned that punitive legal measures will also be taken against parents who opt to settle defilement cases out of court.

The MP warned that the county may lack female leaders in future if ‘sex pests’ are not contained.
