Kilifi North MP Owen Baya wants the National Lands Commission (NLC) to revoke a lease for the disputed land in Kashem area.

According to a local daily, Baya has written to the commission to revoke the lease with immediate effect.

He faulted the commission for colluding with Justus Sambu, a businessman who claims to the rightful owner of the land, to vacate the residents.

The lawmaker wants the commission to revoke the 99 years lease and allow Dama Kathubu, 75 to repossess the land.

“I have been pushed to write to the National Land Commission to revoke this lease and give back the land to Dama Kathubu,” said Baya in the letter dated  December 6, 2017, as quoted by Baraka FM.

He also expresses concern after the commission asked over 800 residents on the land to pay Sh.20 million to Sambu. The lawmaker affirmed that he will not sit back and watch the commission working with Sambu to intimidate the local residents.

The move comes barely a month after a section of residents matches to the MP’s office crying foul of mistreatment from the provincial administration and the land’s commission.

Dama claims that the land was 12 acres but she opted to give 6.5 acres to the local community.
