Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut has issued a stern warning to a locally based factory that it will not be allowed to cut down trees until it puts in place initiatives of replacing them. The Eldoret based Raiply, a factory for the production of all type of block board and other timber boards depends on trees as its raw materials.Speaking in Eldoret town on Friday, Chepkut said the move is meant to protect existing forest in the region to conserve the environment. The MP asked the factory located on the outskirts of Eldoret town to develop a programme that will see more trees planted even as others are cut to facilitate their operations."This year Raiply are not going to cut our trees without having a program of replacing the one that will be cut. This is a serious warning that need not be ignored," noted the MP."We want to protect our trees as we know forests protect our environment and combat climate change," he added. The MP further lamented over the drastic decrease of the country's forest cover from 13 percent in 1973 to the current about 1.7 percent. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Uasin Gishu County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
