Nyamira County Women Representative Jerusha Momanyi has raised alarm over the increased cases of violence targeting women in the region.
The lawmaker said the government should not ignore women to suffer under the hands of violent husbands in deep villages.
"Violence against women must stop in Nyamira. Violent husbands must be arrested and be prosecuted in the court of law.
"Women should not shy away from reporting the violent incidents targeting them to police officers for legal actions to be taken," she noted.
She threatened to push for the sacking of local chiefs who defends violent men whenever women reports cases to their offices.
"Local chiefs who have been defending violent women risks losing their jobs because I will not tolerate men to intimidate and blackmail women.
"Government officers must be at the forefront defending for the women's rights failure to which they will be sent packing for new people to be given the jobs who are ready to work," added the MP.
She pleaded with women to start small business to boost their living standard and stop depending on their husbands.
