Kisii County woman representative Janet Ongera has raised concern over increased violence against women in the region.
Ms Ong'era speaking at Kisii Cathedral on Saturday urged women, not to shy reporting violence against them.
"It is worrying that men are taking advantage of women who have not been well exposed to assault them. I am urging women to know their rights and come out to defend the constitutional rights," Ms Ong'eta said.
"Violence against women in Kisii region is on the rise and we must stop this by all means,” she added.
According to her, most women do not report this cases because of the several threats they receive from their lovers.
"We have no shortcut and all violent men should be forwarded to the police. We cannot put the lives of women at risk just because their husbands are unfriendly," she said.
She said that public forums will be started in the region so as to sensitize women on the need of reporting such men to the authority.
The woman representative also asked police officers in the county not to ignore women who report cases related to assaults.
"My appeal to security officers is that they should not take assault on women lightly. Any man assaulting his wife should be arrested and prosecuted,” said the MP.
