Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo has raised concerned over the increase in the number of teenage pregnancies among school going girls. Speaking at Mwakirunge Primary School, the lawmaker said bodaboda operators have taken advantage of poverty in the area to engage in sex with school going children. Mbogo said the riders pay the girls as little as Sh50 to engage in sex only to impregnate and later dump them.“This has been a problem generally but more so in Mwakirunge Ward,” said Mbogo, as quoted by The Star. His sentiments were backed by Mwakirunge MCA Feddis Salame who said more than 20 girls in the area have dropped out of school this year because of early pregnancies.Parents and other stakeholders in the education sector have continued to lament over increased cases of girls leaving school after being impregnated. The MP was speaking during the launch a feeding programme for this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates.Mbogo said he intends to make the programme part of the constituency’s plans in the coming years.
