Lari MP Mburu Kahangara has raised concerns over the existence of unlicensed liquor outlets in the county.
The MP told reporters yesterday that the number of liquor outlets operating without licence is many.
He said the existence of such outlets poses a threat to the wellbeing of residents bearing in mind that many people have died as a result of consuming poisoned alcohol.
“The Kiambu government must crack the whip on those operating liquor dens without licenses,” he said.
Kahangara further urged the National Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) to move in and deal with illegal operators.
The leader said that Nacada has the mandate and power to deal with illegal liquor operators.
He also asked parents and guardians to take keen interest in activities of their kids saying that most of them are drinking alcohol.
Kahangara said that alcoholism is the main social problem facing the residents and called for quick measures.
The lawmaker said it is the responsibility of every local to spearhead the fight against alcoholism and drug abuse.
He asked the county Youths Affairs director to formulate laws that will help curb drug abuse especially among the young people.
