Muhoroni MP Onyango K'Oyoo has criticized the central government for what he terms colluding with the sugar millers in the region to import cheap sugar from the neighboring countries thereby putting the ailing local sugar industry at more risk.

This comes days after Muhoroni Sugar company requested to be allowed to import raw sugar from neighboring countries.

K'Oyoo is however, happy with the move saying it will open the way for illicit sugar imports.

The MP claimed some Jubilee politicians have been paid to approve the importation of sugar.

The MP has threatened to name politicians involved if the importation of the sugar.

"I want to tell them that they will not pocket me," he said.

"Over my dead body shall I allow my constituents to suffer at the hands of a few greedy people."

The first-term lawmaker challenged the government to  focus on how the industry can be made more vibrant to attract investors.

"The government needs to ensure that all imported sugar is taxed to level the playing field or risk the collapse of the sugar industry," he added.
