There was drama in Naivasha on Monday after an MP and residents stormed a police station demanding the release of areas assistant chief who had been arrested over allegations of peddling bhang.
Maraigushu area residents led their lawmaker John Kihagu accused the police of stage-managing the arrest of Peter Irungu.
According to the residents, a nominated senator was behind the arrest of Irungu.
The fiasco started on Monday morning when police officers raided Irung'u house and allegedly confiscated 15 rolls of marijuana before arresting him.
It took the intervention of Naivasha sub-county commissioner Issac Masinde to cool the tempers of the angry residents who threatened to storm the police station and free the 'innocent' chief.
Irungu was later released on a free bond awaiting the court appearance.
“The sub-chief has been released on a free bond and an inquiry file has been opened so that the case can be fully investigated,” Masinde is quoted by the star.
Irungu on his part, stated that his life was in danger and selfish people wanted to eliminate him.
“I want to state openly that some people want to eliminate me for their own selfish interest and I ask for government protection,” he said.
