An MP from Lamu has spoken out about Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's tour in the county on Saturday.

This comes after the governor and his ODM team were heckled and hurled with stones and unripe mangoes by rowdy youth in Mpeketoni, Lamu.

Addressing journalists on Monday, Lamu West MP Julius Ndegwa claimed that Joho's security team attacked an old man, a move that angered the locals.

Ndegwa said Joho and his team should be blamed for the incident for allegedly failing to notify police about the rally for security to be provided.

However, the lawmaker condemned the incident that left several people injured, saying everyone has a right to campaign in any part of the country.

He further cautioned politicians against making remarks that incite the public.

Joho, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and their Taita Taveta counterpart John Mruttu were on a charm offensive to counter Jubilee Party influence in the region following President Uhuru Kenyatta's one week-long tour of the Coastal region to woe the voters to support his re-election bid.
