Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has urged the government to introduce mandatory national paramilitary training for youths to enable them respond appropriately in cases of attack or even serious emergency.
Speaking in his constituency, Ngunjiri cited that paramilitary training would have the Garissa attack youths escape or counter attack to minimise the casualties.
“VIPs including legislators, judges and commissioners enjoy unparalleled police protection while helpless individuals are left at the mercy of criminals,” said Ngunjiri.
He called on the president to withdraw all police officers guarding the VIPs and deploy the same to guard national institutions and the general public.
Ngunjiri added that the president and his security team should not be feted and should be given a free hand in dealing with nagging security problems in the country. He blamed the current weak executive on the drafters of the 2010 constitution whom he dismissed as activists who were only out to remove the powers of the president while protecting criminals and saboteurs went on a killing spree in the country. “Kenyans should be protected at all costs. We should ensure that lives are held with utmost dignity. It is up to lawmakers to create the security desired for our people,” he added.
