Ten years later, the lawmaker is on course to make his own history having established himself as a real political force.

The vocal MP's big break came in 2013 when he was elected the first MP of the newly-created Homa Bay constituency having trounced Ogindo who defeated him five years earlier. And since then, there has been no looking back.

Boasting an impressive development record and good performance in Parliament, the University of Nairobi-trained lawyer was a favorite to win the 2017 election. And he did it, first by defeating seven others to clinch the ODM ticket, and later by winning the August 8 poll by a landslide. And once again, his longtime political rivals including Ogindo lost.

Alongside Suba South's John Mbadi, Kaluma is one of the longest serving MPs in Homa Bay County. And with his newfound political clout, the vocal legislator is seen by many as the future of the county that was once home to iconic freedom fighter Tom Mboya.

Will a 'David' emerge from nowhere to end his political career? Only time will tell.
