Speaking on Thursday in Kilifi, Mung'aro alleged that a total of Sh20 million had been raised by county workers involved in the scandal, with the aim of bribing the special investigating committee.

“We are very much aware that Sh20 million has been raised by the people involved in siphoning county funds with the aid of a prominent businessman from kilifi. We know the name of the businessman, but for the sake of the ongoing investigation, I will not reveal his identity,” he said.

“In case the committee investigating this issue takes the bribe, we will inform members of the public,” he added.

So far 10 county officials including the county's finance senior accountant, treasury deputy director and education principal accountant have been relieved of their duties following suspicion of involvement in the scandal.
