Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has signed a protocol of cooperation between the constituency office and Gatundu district hospital to discuss a wide range of issues that affect service delivery at the health facility.
The agreement will be jointly presented to Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia who will approve the proposal of converting the historic hospital into a teaching hospital for Kenyatta University.
The MP said that if approved, the hospital will be equipped with modern equipment by June this year, imported from Asia and they plan to admit the first batch of students at the Kenya Medical Training College, Gatundu district hospital branch.
The legislator said that the hospital will be upgraded from level 4 to level 5 by June to allow for joint funding by the county government and national government.
“If the MOU is approved by Kabogo and Macharia, we will upgrade the historic hospital from level 4 to level 5,” he said. He added that they are establishing the Gatundu Hospital Foundation to mobilise private sector resources towards improvement of the hospital into a centre of excellence.
The team from Gatundu hospital, led by medical superintendent Dr Patrick Nyaga, thanked the county government in partnership with the area MP for saving an historic medical centre which served during the Mau Mau era.
