Nyamira girls studying in various primary and secondary schools across the county have something to smile about following the launch of sanitary towels distribution program.
Nyamira County Women Representative Jerusha Momanyi on Friday launched the program which is aimed at ensuring school girls receive free sanitary towels during their menstruation cycles.
The Jubilee MP said the program is part of her initiative to improve girl child education in the county.
“Several girls in the county misses going to school when they are receiving periods due to lack of sanitary towels.
"The program I have launched will see school girls remain in school throughout to attend every lesson,” she said.
Jerusha said school girls will get the sanitary towels for free and warned residents against stealing the towels to sell to the girls.
“Parents should not condone their daughters to be at home during school time because each and every girl menstruating will receive the sanitary towels for free to use.
"I call upon all elected leaders, aspiring leaders and residents to step up efforts and ensure girls improve in education because currently there are low education standards for our girls,” she noted.
She was speaking on Friday at Riomoro DOK primary school, Kemera ward, Kitutu Masaba constituency in Nyamira County.
