Rongai Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Raymond Moi has lauded the move by the county government of Nakuru to restructure Rongai town by demolishing old builidings.
Speaking in Rogai town on Thursday evening Moi said that the move is welcome as most buildings in the town were constructed during the colonial period adding that they are in a bad state.
He said that res-structuring will help in modernising the small town and attracting more investors.
“Rongai is very close to Nakuru and since Nakuru is rapidly expanding, we also need to change with time and put up new modern structures to replace the old dilapidated ones. The growth of Nakuru is expanding and we should support the county government in its plans to structure Rongai town,” said Moi.
“The town was poor planned and a lot of space has gone to waste and this need to be corrected so that we can reduce the number of fire accidents being reported here,” said the MP.
Moi was speaking when he visited victims whose houses were burned in Rongai town on Tuesday night.
On Wednesday Rongai sub-county commissioner Julius Nyaata revealed plans by the county government to re-plan and re-structure the town as one way of averting disasters like fires.
