Rongo MP Paul Abuor has told the government to go slow on the issues of privatisation of sugarcane millers.
Abuor, who was speaking at Tuk Jowi area in Rongo constituency, said there are various fundamental issues like land, debt among others that the government must tackle before privatising companies like Sony sugar.
Abuor said the government must stop putting the farmers under unnecessary duress with the issues of privatisation saying that they will not bow to unnecessary pressure
He said the government must write off all the debt owned by Sony Sugar Company before pushing for its privatization.
According to their latest meeting with the privatization, Abuor said they have demanded that the commission come to the ground to meet farmers and dialogues with farmers on privatization.
He said the government must seek for the stand of the farmers especially on matters of land in which the company sits asserting that the land was donated by the community and therefore cannot be sold to private partners if the government insists on privatizing Sony Sugar Company.
The MP, however, maintained that they oppose the privatization of Sony Sugar Company asking the government to put the company in the hand of the farmers or the county government.
