Kisumu West Member of Parliament Olago Aluoch has urged Governor Jack Ranguma to ensure there is equal distribution of funds to all rural areas, to ensure they are equally developed.

According to Aluoch, rural areas in the county, which include Nyahera, Maseno, Seme ,Nyakach ,Muhoroni,Nyando and part of Kisumu East Sub-county need an upgrade on different sectors.

The legislator said that rural dwellers in the county were suffering from poverty and lack of exposure, further challenging Ranguma to empower the rural dwellers for the benefit and development in the county.

“Our rural dwellers are leading miserable lives and it is high time the leaders looked into the matter. There is need to empower them economically and socially so as to foster development in our county,” said Olago.

Olago asked the county government to empower rural dwellers especially in the agriculture sector, for the county to achieve food security plans.

“Let us empower the county residents residing in the rural areas for us to be a food hub in the western Kenya region. The only way we can always produce enough food, not only to our county but also for import to other counties is by empowering and enlightening the rural dwellers on the significance of practicing commercial crop farming,” added Aluoch.

He was speaking during a fundraiser in the constituency on Friday.
