Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has dismissed Senator Hassan Omar's quest for Mombasa governorship saying county residents need a leader who will spur development.Awiti who recently decamped from Wiper party claiming that the nominations would not be free and fair, said he's the best leader Mombasa County can have.“There is a development drought in Mombasa that Omar cannot solve. He is just an overambitious son who thinks he can beat his father in parenting,” Awiti told the Star on phone. He was responding to claims by Omar stating that he decamped from the Kalonzo Musyoka-led Wiper party for fear of losing to him during the nominations.Omar and Awiti were both eying the Wiper ticket in their quest to unseat Governor Hassan Joho in the August 8 polls.Awiti has since joined the newly formed Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP), the political vehicle he will use to vie for Mombasa governorship.VDP's official launch has been slated for Tuesday.Omar who spoke during an event in Changamwe on Sunday, insisted he could have defeated Awiti during the Wiper nominations.“Don’t think he left because the nominations would have not been free and fair. It is because we were well prepared. If you say ‘Ho’ we prepare ourselves. If you say ‘Ha’, we continue preparing ourselves,” the former KNCHR vice chair said.
