A member of Parliament has welcomed the move to raise President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto's salaries by 10 per cent.

The move will see the President and his deputy get a pay rise of 10 per cent in the new financial year starting July.

This comes amid the push by the government to reduce the already bloated public wage bill.

John Waluke, however, insisted that the president, just like any other Kenyan, would be happy for a pay rise.

"If a company you are working for decides to increase your salary, I think you must be happy. So I don't  see any problem with increasing the president and his deputy's salaries. It is the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) that is concerned with this matter," added the Sirisia MP.

The lawmaker at the same time accused the striking doctors, through their union officials, of rejecting the government's offer of a 40 per cent pay rise noting that a further increase would be unreasonable.

"The doctors were awarded an increase but they rejected the offer. The president and his deputy's case is different because they are only two people and it won't cost the billions that the medics will be paid if the government heeds to their demands," he added during CitizenTV's Power Breakfast show on Friday .
