Lamu woman representative Shakila Abdalla has opposed the government's plan to set up a Sh200 billion coal factory in the county.Abdalla said the proposed plant will affect the health of the residents, and threatened court action if the State doesn't rescind its decision. She said she will mobilise residents and activists to support her move, the Star had reported. However, the lawmaker said she'll take legal action by moving to the High Court if the National Environment Tribunal which recently toured Lamu on a fact-finding mission on the project fails to consider their concerns. She, at the same time, condemned the Friday incident in which police officers confiscated activists' posters and placards as they held peaceful demonstrations in Lamu town. She said the move was uncalled for, further warning the police against using unnecessary force to harass activists opposed to the project.
