Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina has announced plans to distribute eggs to public primary schools in the area.
The programme dubbed 'Egg Monday' aims at providing pupils with an egg at every first day of the week throughout the term.
"The programme will be rolled out next year when the schools reopen. We want to ensure our children get the much-needed energy to kick start the week in a big way," Wainaina said.
Speaking at Kamenu Primary School on Thursday, the MP said the initiative would also be a major boost to small-scale poultry farmers who will supply the eggs.
"We are targeting local poultry farmers especially the youth and women in this drive. When empowered economically, they will have decent living which will go a long way in reducing crime and immorality," the lawmaker said.
