Needy and bright girls from Nyaribari Chache constituency have a reason to smile after the area MP Richard Tong’i announced that he will in a weeks’ time launch a scholarship programme for them.
The MP explained that most of the needy girls have been dropping out of school because they lack school fees among other crucial learning items.
Speaking on Thursday at a fundraiser in Keumbu the MP said that the funds to the Kitty will come from his pocket though he welcomed well-wishers to chip in so that it can be sustainable.
“All I want to see is that we have an educated society and that will be achieved easily if the girl child gets the right education that she needs,” he added.
The Legislator added that the initiative is currently aiming at boosting the education of the girl child beyond primary and secondary schools.
He also added that the process of choosing the beneficiaries will be free and fair and will be based on merit only.
