Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire has slammed remarks by President Uhuru Kenyatta during his tour in Nakuru County as retrogressive and dictatorial.
Uhuru was quoted saying Jubilee will leave power once his deputy William Ruto rules for another 10 years to extend their stay in power for a total of 20 years.
But Bosire on Thursday said the remarks were a blow to democracy, and challenged the President to formerly apologise to the nation.
“It’s very disappointing that the Head of State can utter such retrogressive and dictatorial remarks. Kenya is a democratic state where we go for an election and winners are declared after five years,” Bosire said.
“He cannot go to a rally and declare that they will rule for two decades as if they are guaranteed of votes. The President should come out clean on this and apologise to Kenyans,” he added.
Bosire said the remarks were an indication that Jubilee was determined to cling to power regardless of the outcome of 2017 polls, adding the move will not augur well for the country if Uhuru fails to clarify his remarks.
“We are not a monarch and the President knows that. Therefore, the remarks means that Jubilee is determined to stay in power even if they lose in 2017 polls. If that’s the case, then I see our nation heading in the wrong direction,” he added.
The ODM National Treasurer also slammed the Jubilee administration over its incompetence in fighting corruption saying many Kenyans were convinced that the government had lost significantly in delivering on its mandate.
“The President should know that we are a democratic state where he should not make such remarks. He has failed to fight graft and astonishingly, he is now saying they will rule till 2032. This is a government that has lost focus and he should be prepared for a tough battle unless if they want to steal the elections to stay in power,” he said.
