Disgruntlement is now boiling over in Kisumu over alleged discrimination in the National Youth Service (NYS) Nyalenda project.
The NYS project was officially launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta last Tuesday when he went to the lakeside city to officiate the opening of the second Annual Devolution conference that was held at Tom Mboya Labour College which neighbours Nyalenda slums.
Kisumu politician Brian Jobita accused area MP Ken Obura of playing politics with Nyalenda residents.
“I do not owe anybody any apology for standing by Nyalenda A Ward residents on the discrimination in the NYS Nyalenda project. The area legislator Ken Obura should stop playing too much politics with the residents and offer leadership,” said Jobita.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu yesterday, Jobita said that out of the 4,000 slots given by the President, only 400 slots were given to Nyalenda A Ward residents.
“Obura cannot claim that simply because Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabir was not involved, now there is need to side-line Nyalenda residents in a project that is supposed to take place in their area. Someone needs to update Obura over Nyalenda and its history,” he added.
