Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong’i was speaking in Kisii town on Sunday, he said most youths in the constituency have ventured fully into betting something that has increased school dropouts and crime.
“Betting, gambling has consumed our youth and destroyed many families. I am urging youths from the constituency to stop gambling and be focused to make their lives better,” he said.
Tong’i accused security agencies of failing to arrest traders running gambling businesses.
"Interior Cs Fred Matiang’i issued a directive that police should arrest traders running the illegal gambling businesses and close them down but police are doing too little to end the vice. We should all wary of this vice and ensure it ends,” he added.
The lawmaker asked young people to venture into businesses instead of engaging in illegal activities.
