Athi River Location Chief Joel Mukwa has urged Mavoko MP Patrick Makau to establish school fee kitty for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in the constituency to support their education.
Mukwa said that the kitty would help save the situation which most of the parents, guardians and well wishers were going through.
He disclosed that most of the guardians were not able to take children to secondary schools due to inadequacy or total lack of school fees.
Mukwa expressed his fears that despite the fact that children’s performance in last year's KCPE examinations in the constituency was encouraging, a number of the children's dreams would be shattered due to lack of school fees to help them further their education beyond primary level caused by poverty they live in.
The chief commended the area Member of Parliament for giving reasonable CDF allocation to bursaries to support educating the bright, needy and vulnerable children from the region.
He however said that if a special kitty was established to support such children, the situation would be better arguing that the rate of vulnerability among children who needed school fees support in the region was wanting.
Mukwa made these statement on Wednesday when he visited Mavoko Mixed Secondary School to check on the progress of form one students’ intake in the school.
