Speaking on Friday after holding a consultative meeting with the artisans, the legislator argued that it would be inhumane for the county government to evict the artisans without resettling them.

"While the county might have reasons to remove the operators mainly mechanics, it is only fair that they be taken to an alternative place where they can set up their workshops and enterprises," Awiti said.

He added, "These people have been working in this area for many years and this being their only source of livelihood, I appeal to the county government to be humane and get them a suitable place where they can be operating from."

Awiti further urged the county government to stop the eviction process until the artisans' plight is conclusively addressed.

"In the meantime, they should not be evicted until they are provided with an alternative place to operate their business," he said.
