Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori has asked the government to allocate funds towards assisting recovering drug addicts to ditch the habit successful.

 Speaking after meeting a number of  addicts and officials from the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada), the lawmaker said that lack of funds has dealt the fight against the use of drugs in the region and entire nation.  

He also said that the funds will greatly assist the recovering addicts after some of them were reportedly contemplating going back to their old ways. 

He further said that the government should show its commitment in the fight against drugs and protecting the affected youths in the country.

 “The funds will empower them by directing their energy on alternative activities that will positively change  their lives. We must protect and fight for the rights of young people affected by drugs,” he said.

 He also suggested that the government should push for the movement of the Methodane Clinic at Kombani along the Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway, to Ukunda in order to serve many addicts in the near future. 

“We request Nacada and the county government of Kwale to discuss the possibility of moving the centre to Ukunda,” he said.

Kwale is among the most affected counties when it comes to drugs abuse in the nation.
