Mavoko Member of Parliament Patrick Makau has urged the national government to transfer teachers from North-Eastern Region.
Addressing the press in Athi River town on Monday, Makau said that the teachers had constitutional right of being transferred to other parts of the country which are more secure than the North.
"These teachers requesting to be transferred from North-Eastern are also human beings and have constitutional rights to be transferred to other parts of the country, threatening to sack them will not help solve the situation,” said Makau.
Makau argued that North-Eastern residents should teach their own children if they do not want teachers from other regions to work there.
He said that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) should consider the teachers' requests and transfer them claiming that there were lots of teachers shortage in many other parts of the country where the teachers could work including Mavoko Constituency.
The legislature however noted that security is a responsibility of all Kenyans hence called on the North-Eastern region residents to be cooperative in ensuring that the region's safety.
