Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong'i has urged candidates who sat for Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (KCPE) in 2015 to consider enrolling in local secondary schools.

The legislator said the already existing schools should be developed first before new ones are established.

He added that in Kisii and Nyamira counties there are many secondary schools that perform well and need more students to join them.

“We should work together towards developing our region by producing the best students because so far we have the best schools in the region,” said the MP.

Tong'i accused area residents of failing to appreciate local secondary schools saying many parents prefer to enrol their children in other regions.

“Secondary schools have increased in our region over the past few years, but it puzzles me that we are still taking our children to other counties for enrolment,” he added.

He was speaking at Senior Musa Nyandusi School in Nyaribari Chache on Wednesday where he inspected the ongoing renovation exercise.

The MP urged the county government to start developing local secondary schools and also set up more special schools for children with disabilities in the area.
