Bonchari MP Zebedeo Opore has urged Suneka residents to cooperate with company engineers contracted to rehabilitate the Suneka airstrip so that they can complete it on time and at ease.
According to the MP, the residents had dropped a hint of opposing the project if they will not be hired to work at the airstrip as the rehabilitation continues.
“I would like the area residents to be calm and the available jobs in the airstrip will be obviously shared among the area and it will be a fair process done,” said Opore.
This comes barely a day after the CEC of the Roads Kisii County Public Works and Transport, Skitta Ocharo laid a foundation of the rehabilitation of the airstrip. In the project, the first phase of the renovation will involve the construction of a perimeter wall, parking, an administration block and a passenger lounge.
Upon completion of this phase, the airstrip is expected to boost tourism and business not only within Kisii County but also in the neighbouring counties.
The whole project is expected to cost the county Sh 56 million and it is being financed by the county government of Kisii.
