Nyamira County Women representative Jerusha Momanyi has asked women in Nyamira County to apply for soft loans to help them start businesses to earn a living.
Mrs Momanyi said for several years, women have been depending on men to provide for their families.
“Women should open up their eyes and start doing personal businesses to boost their living standards.
"Women should apply for government loans which will enable them start small businesses such as salon, groceries to earn a living instead of being in their houses idling and gossiping,” she said.
The lawmaker urged more women to come out in large numbers to compete with men in seeking leadership roles in the society.
“Women have the leadership potential but the low number of women seeking leadership posts is worrying," she added.
