Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament Richard Tong’i has called upon all the social media users especially the youth to use it responsibly to promote moral values and harmony.
Speaking while addressing a number of youth at Keumbu social hall early this morning, the Mp said it’s very frustrating to see youths being arrested for misusing their social media accounts and spreading hatred instead of using them to earn a living .
He also added that despite the fact that they’re there were tremendous social and economic benefits to be derived from the cyberspace, there were also risks such as computer-related crimes.
He was speaking barely a day after two were charged in a Kisii Court for licking Kisii county deputy governor nude photos online.
“We need to promote social media platforms in a way that does not jeopardise national security through propaganda for war, hate speech and incitement to violence,” he said.
The legislator said the social media sites should be used for networking and not cyberbullying as it is being witnessed currently.
