The MP told journalists that drug abuse remains one of the biggest problems to many youths across Kiambu including his constituency.

Speaking at Gatundu shopping center over the weekend, Kuria said that fighting drug abuse among the youths will be a gateway to fighting unemployment and poverty.

“We are going to work with other leaders across Kiambu County to fight drug abuse and other issues facing young people,” said Kuria.

The MP observed that many youths have been lured into drug abuse and other unlawful activities due to the risen cases of unemployment in the area.

He claimed that for the problem to be effectively fought, leaders from the county must work together.

The MP also stated that through various programmes initiated by national and the county government, drug abuse will soon be a thing of the past.

The legislator added that no development would be realised if appropriate measures are not taken to curb drug abuse.

Kuria urged youths from his constituency to apply for development funds and engage in income generating activities to improve their lives.

He said that funds have been set aside for purposes of empowering young people and women.

Kuria advised that unemployment will reduce if only young people start using available opportunities like Youth and Uwezo Funds being provided by the government.

Kuria concluded that Jubilee government is keen to create employment opportunities for the young people as earlier promised when they were campaigning.
