Nandi Hills lawmaker Alfred Keter has vowed to fight alleged cartels at Moi University who are promoting corruption at the institution that has recently be marred by succession battles.
The outspoken MP claimed that the appointment of Prof Laban Ayiro as the acting Vice Chancellor was a plot to cover a Sh17billion laptop tender scandal.
“The cartels swindled a huge amount of money meant for a laptop tender won by Moi University and a South African research and investing firm, JP SA Couto, they are trying to conceal the scandal," he said.
Keter also vowed to fight the appointment of Ayiro after the stipulated three months in acting capacity.
“We are not going to watch as the corrupt cartels change the leadership of Moi University for their selfish interest, we will defend our institution,” said Keter.
Ayiro was appointed two weeks ago by Education CS Fred Matiangi to replace the outgoing vice chancellor Prof. Richard Mibey.
His appointment sparked protests from local leaders and residents who claimed that Ayiro was not fit for the position.
