Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi has likened National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale to a ‘village elder’ waiting to retire.
Duale has been a chief critic of ODM leader Raila Odinga despite having worked with him in the grand coalition government.
Speaking on Thursday in Nyacheki ward in Bobasi constituency during campaigns for the upcoming by-election, Opiyo accused Duale of ‘trivialising’ sensitive issues raised by the opposition.
The seat fell vacant following the death of ODM's Peter Ongeri. IEBC has slated the mini-poll for October 25.
“Our sole mandate as the opposition is to keep the government in check and that is what we have done for years now. However, it’s very disappointing that when we raise issues, somebody like Duale spits instead of countering with facts,” Wandayi said.
“He is just like a clan elder waiting to retire peacefully during the 2017 polls. ODM is everywhere and our unstoppable wave will teach him a lesson in 2017 polls,” the ODM secretary for political affairs added.
Duale recently dismissed a report by Raila opposing a mega water project being funded by the World Bank in Muranga County, accusing the veteran politician of trading politics.
He is facing a fierce battle from the former National assembly Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim for the Garissa Town parliamentary seat which Opiyo assured him of losing.
“He should go to Garissa and try to look for votes. We are aware he is panicking and as the ODM, we will ensure he loses the seat,” he said.
