Molo MP Jacob Macharia said that the chiefs and their assistants are the people on the ground and are in a better position to ensure that the law is not violated by brokers.

Speaking at Molo market on Friday morning, Macharia said that some chiefs have been receiving bribes from brokers as a way of allowing them to use the extended packaging bags.

He added that they have failed to arrest brokers who use the outlawed bags even after being alerted by farmers.

“Chiefs must know that they are government officers and they must ensure that all government laws are implemented. They must stop allowing brokers to use the banned bags because they are hurting the poor farmers. The small bribes they receive will not help them and they must stop,” said Macharia.

Macharia said that the law which banned the use of extended bags can only be implemented fully if all stakeholders including, the police chiefs and farmers stopped working with brokers.
