Borabu MP Ben Momanyi has called on the government to allow community policing to work as it used to be in the past.
The lawmaker claimed that since the introduction of Nyumba Kumi initiative, crime has been on the rise in his constituency.
“During the time when we had community policing crime cases were minimal but since the introduction of the so called Nyumba Kumi initiative crime such as livestock theft has been on the rise in Borabu. The government should consider bringing back community policing,” he said.
The MP claimed that some Nyumba Kumi officials are colluding with criminals to steal property in Borabu.
“It is evident that some Nyumba Kumi members are helping thugs especially bandits to steal livestock. Interior Cs Fred Matiang’i should push community policing to be brought back to help in improving security in villages not only in Borabu but also across the country,” he added.
The Wiper party MP said locals in his constituency are living in fear because criminals may come anytime to steal their livestock.
He said he will not rest until security in Borabu is improved and livestock thieves flushed out from the region.
