Addressing the press at his Kiambu office over the weekend, area MP Jude Njomo raised concerns over the rising number of street children in the town.

The MP said the county government must work out on how to address the plight of street children.

“Kiambu county government should quickly listen and address to the plight of street kids,” said the MP.

Njomo noted that street urchins have the same rights as other children, and that the government and well-wishers must act immediately.

The MP observed that many urchins are engaging in crime, a move he said is a threat to their lives.

He asked the government to establish centers where street children will be counseled and taught life basic skills.

The MP observed that some of the kids found themselves on the street as a result of being neglected by their families.

The lawmaker added that helping such kids will curb instances of crime, and help them see life positively through education and training.
