Ngunjiri said that failure by the county government to involve the county MPs in making decisions about development projects has contributed to the county being among the least spenders on development.

Addressing the press on Friday at a Nakuru Hotel Ngunjiri, who was accompanied by his Nakuru East counterpart David Gikaria, said that MPs are a crucial component of the county leadership and therefore should not be overlooked by the county government.

“Most of the development projects being done by the county government are done without the input of MPs and it is wrong because we were also part of the county leader. At times even when projects are being launched we do not get invited as if we are not part of the county leaders,” complained Ngunjiri.

On his part Gikaria said that the only way the county will realise real development is by involving all leaders in making decisions concerning development.

“You cannot develop a whole county as an individual without input of other leaders and we want to call on the county government leadership to stop undermining us,” said Gikaria.

In a World Bank report released two weeks ago about spending by county governments, Nakuru was ranked among the worst performing after having spent only 15% of its total budget on development.
