Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna has called for harsh punitive measures against motorists who escape after causing accidents on Kenyan roads.
Nguna said the hit and run motorists who fail to report to relevant authorities after they engage in road accidents should be ruthlessly dealt with.
Addressing mourners at a burial ceremony in Kairungu location within his constituency on Tuesday, Nguna vowed to sponsor a bill in parliament imposing harsh punitive measures on reckless drivers.
He said days of the "killer" motorists who have been killing Kenyans on roads through wanton road accidents are numbered.
Nguna said a hit and run driver is currently charged not more than Sh300, 000 which according to him is too little compared to the magnitude of the offense.
The MP said he had lost a relative after he was hit by a runaway vehicle but the perpetrator was still on the lose.
He said the move will ensure sanity on Kenyan roads.
"I have lost a cousin through this disturbing hit and run situation, a very young soul is gone yet no one knows who killed the 33 year old," Nguna said.
He said many innocent citizens had lost their lives in road accidents hence it was the right time to take stern action against reckless motorists.
