Speaking to reporters at Nakuru town on Saturday, Ngunjiri said that ICC has no case against Ruto and Sang and that it should acquit them.

The MP said that the withdrawal of charges against President Uhuru Kenyatta is a clear indication that ICC has no evidence  against Ruto and Sang.

“We want to ask the ICC to withdraw charges against Ruto and Sang,” he said, adding that the court has failed to provide evidence against the two on their alleged role in the 2007/08 post-election violence.

Ngunjiri at the same time welcomed the withdrawal of the case against Kenyatta, saying it will enable him to discharge his duties effectively as the president.

“It was clear from the start that ICC had no evidence against Kenyatta,” he added.

The MP also supported calls to have ICC compensate for all the expenses incurred by President Kenyatta and the government in the case.

Ngunjiri lashed out at some leaders questioning the withdrawal of Kenyatta’s case, accusing them of having planned and championed the prosecution of Kenyatta and Ruto at ICC.

He alleged that some politicians in the opposition were behind the naming of Kenyatta and Ruto as alleged orchestrators of the 2007-2008 post-poll chaos.

Ngunjiri also refuted claims that the setting free of Kenyatta will hamper his relationship with Ruto, saying that the two leaders are focused on working together no matter the outcome of ICC cases.

Nakuru residents have also welcomed the withdrawal of the case, saying it will help Kenyatta to address challenges facing the country, especially insecurity.
