This, he said, will not only open up the county to be an investment hub but raise the country's status by having four cities.

Speaking in Nakuru town on Monday, the MP exuded confidence in the way the county is preparing for Madaraka Day celebrations.

"What I have witnessed today in our county headquarter is commendable. From the roads, the scenery, flower beds, billboards and organisation, everything is just at a level of its own making a visitor enjoy every second within Nakuru. What does it take for a town to be elevated to city status?" he said.

Moi called on leaders from the region who will be given a chance to adress the country during the celebrations to make the proposal.

After the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) committed to building an airport before 2017 after a land tussle between the authority and a private developer was resolved, tourists visiting Nakuru county will be able to book their international flights from the airport making it easy as compared to previous years where they were forced to use Nairobi before driving to Nakuru by road.

At the moment, the country has only three cities; Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.
