Lamu West MP Julius Ndegwa is advocating for the probing of an incident in which security officers allegedly shot and injured two persons at the Lamu Law Courts under unclear circumstances.

The victims were part of protestors who brought business at the court to a standstill following an attempt to free a suspected drug peddler after he was handed a 20 -year-jail-term.Two security officers also sustained injuries following a scuffle that saw a 16-year-old boy and 40-year-old Mohamed Yusuf shot. The angry group attacked officers with different crude weapons including stones, clubs and knives. The lawmaker, who spoke in Lamu on Monday, faulted police in the area for applying excessive force in calming the situation after things run out of control.Ndegwa called upon the relevant authorities to look into the matter urgently to ensure justice is erved to the victims of the shooting.“Security personnel should look into the matter. There is need to ascertain if any officer misused their weapon after which the law must follow its due course. They should have used reasonable force considering all the youth weren’t armed. I don’t see what warranted them to open fire on these people,” said Ndegwa, as quoted by Baraka FM.The politician also warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, adding that they should follow the right channels which involve court intervention.
