Speaking in Nakuru town on Thursday, Mbugua expressed her concern at the rate which illicit brews were re-surging in Nakuru, and further wondered why the police can forcefully disperse innocent mothers and wives who are out to make change.

She vowed to personally visit the station from where the officers came from to demand an apology, arguing that days of harassing people because of their gender were long gone.

"This is totally wrong and I will not sit back and watch my fellow women; the people I am representing be subjected to such harassment. Those responsible must apologise and I mean it," she said.

The outspoken leader called on women not to relent in their efforts of fighting illicit brew business saying they were the ones feeling the brunt with a majority suffering silently.

"Our husbands, brothers and sons are languishing because of illicit brews yet when we speak out we are harassed, we are not going to be intimidated," she added.

Police attached to the Mukinyani AP camp on Sunday roughed up a group of women who were raiding illicit brew dens, ejecting out anybody found there before destroying the outlawed brews.
